At an event today in Japan celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Metal Gear series, Konami revealed that a new, open-world Metal Gear Solid game is on the way.

The game -- titled Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes -- runs on Konami's new Fox Engine. And...well, that's all that's really known for sure at the moment. According to event attendees, a demo of the game (running on a PC with current-gen specs) showed Snake crawling to avoid searchlights, doing a quick stealth kill, and calling a helicopter in for evacuation. No other details on the game's release were included, though Konami has since unveiled one piece of game-related artwork.

The Ground Zeroes wasn't the only bit of news to emerge from the event. Other things of note: a Metal Gear mobile game, Metal Gear Solid: Social Ops, will be hitting tablets and smartphones later this year, and an MGS movie is in the works.
