It seems universal acclaim from critics goes hand in hand with massive amounts of sales. GTA IV shifted 3.6 million its first day of sales which tallies up to a staggering $310 million. 6 million units in its first week, making the total $500 million plus.

In the weeks leading up to the release of Grand Theft Auto IV, predictions were mixed but Take-Two internally predicted sales of 6 milllion in the first week by measuring from pre-order sales. It seems the internal prediction was a solid one. GTA IV nearly doubled Halo 3's $170 million opening day, and took home $200 million more in the first week too. Thus, GTA IV now sports a Guiness world record as the best-selling launch of any entertainment property. This means it has topped all music, movie, game, and other media, ever.
