PlayStation format titles for play on PSP first became available for download in December. Currently there are a dozen titles available, including favorites such as Syphon Filter, Tekken 2, and Crash Bandicoot. With the growing consumer demand for playing retro games, SCEA will now offer downloadable PlayStation format software to PS3 users. The PlayStation titles currently on the PlayStation Store will soon be repackaged and made available for both systems. Once the updated versions are available, PSP users who previously purchased a PlayStation format game can simply re-download the title at no additional cost. New titles will continue to be released throughout the year.
In addition, the firmware updates enable saved data for downloadable PlayStation titles to be copied between both systems. This functionality delivers a new level of interoperability between PS3 and PSP systems, giving gamers the freedom to start a game on one platform and pick up where they left off on the other.
Firmware 1.70 for PS3 also adds the force feedback function of select USB accessories designed for use with PlayStation 2 format software.
