However, all that could easily change in the coming days as gamers worldwide eagerly await announcements from all sides on the hottest upcoming games and consoles. All of this can be exciting news for everyone involved, but there may be some people upset as they realize the effect these announcements will mean on their wallets in the next few months.
The bad news is that if you thought the Xbox 360 was expensive last fall, then buyer beware. GamingExcellence has the latest from the Sony conference before E3, and it doesn’t look like good news for those looking forward to purchasing the Sony's latest console.
With innovative features such as the newly refined PlayStation controller with a similar look and feel to those in the past and featuring a six-axis sensing system that detects all ranges of motion using a gyroscope, as well as full wireless capabilities, multiple optical disc format support, and multiple flash card format support, the PlayStation 3 is sure to please many hard-core and casual gamers alike. Other good news includes the fact that final versions of the hardware are shipping now to development studios, well in advance of the early November worldwide launch date. Theoretically this should mean a large set of fairly refined, high-quality launch titles.
However, all these features will come at a price. A gaming console featuring these, plus a Cell processor, full HDTV support and a pre-installed hard drive is going to cost gamers their monthly allowance for years to come. The version with the 20 GB hard drive is priced at $499 US ($549 CDN) and the 60 GB version will set the wallet back another $100 at $599 US ($659 CDN).
The question on everyone's mind remains: is it worth it? Check back over the next few days as we give our first impressions of the PlayStation 3 games shown at E3.
