Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto series has always stirred up controversy, but the recently released hot coffee modification across several GTA San Andreas fansites is really adding to the pot.

If you still haven't heard about this modification, Hot Coffee allows you to take your girlfriends out on a date for a cup of 'coffee', and then perform uncensored explicit sexual acts. Perhaps a leftover practical joke, or a mode that didn't make it into the final release, Rockstar isn't saying.

The ESRB announced a formal investigation into the modification, which as claimed by the modder, simply unlocks existing code within San Andreas. If this is indeed the case, pending the investigation the body may consider to increase the titles rating to Adults Only from Mature, thus most retailers won't consider carrying it.

At this point, I can imagine that would only be a minor setback, with strong existing sales and this mod only further adding to the popularity of the series.
