The U.S. Army today announced that its America’s Army: Operations computer game has gone gold. The game will be available on a free CD at the beginning of October at local Army Recruiting stations, ROTC Detachment and Army events to be listed at the official website. The game CD will feature many missions that can be downloaded from a number of mirrored sites listed at the official website, as well as several exclusive levels including swamp raid and mountain ambush missions.

America’s Army: Operations is one part of the realistic America's Army computer game that provides civilians with an inside perspective and a virtual role in today’s premier land force: the U.S. Army. The game includes the first-person-perspective action game Operations, as well as Soldiers, the role-playing portion of America’s Army in which players navigate life’s challenges to achieve life goals. Soldiers will be released later this fall.

The Army launched a special RECON version of its Operations game online on July 4th, and followed up with several additional missions and game enhancements over the past few months. In Operations, players go through single player basic training missions then progress to online multiplayer missions ranging from the defense of the Alaskan Pipeline against terrorism as a member of the 172nd Infantry Brigade to training exercises as a member of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry). Players can also go to Marksmanship School and Airborne School, and are able to earn the prestigious Army Ranger Tab for additional adventures and missions. Since July 4th more than 600,000 players have registered to play Operations. Of these, more than 375,000 have completed Basic Combat Training. With over 10 million missions played since 4 July 2002 daily game play has grown to a level of over 450,000 missions per day.
