Apple today has confirmed that founder and former CEO Steve Jobs has passed away. He was 56.

In a statement released moments ago, Apple says they have lost a dear friend and an inspiring mentor.

"Apple has lost a visionary and creative genius, and the world has lost and amazing human being. Steve leaves behind a company that only he could have built, and will forever be the foundation of Apple."

Apple has also created the email address rememberingsteve@apple.com for people to leave condolences.
