Insomniac, the developer behind such series as Resistance and Ratchet and Clank, has officially launched Outernauts, its first Facebook game.

According to Insomniac President Ted Price, the game represents Insomniac's attempt to bring "the breadth and elements of console gaming to a social game". When the game was first announced, it was described as combining "real RPG strategy ...with Insomniac's signature sense of humor."

In practice, Outernauts is essentially Pokemon, but set in space and played out on Facebook: you travel to planets, capture creatures, and train them to capture more creatures on other planets. The core game is free to play, but if you don't feel like waiting to replenish your energy, you have the option of buying more credits.
