A few weeks ago, many gaming sites were abuzz with news about a sequel to one of last year's most idiosyncratic games, El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron. Seeing as the original didn't sell so well, this came as a bit of a surprise, but it was still welcome news for anyone who has ever complained about a lack of risk-taking on the part of game publishers.

Such optimism may have been a little misplaced. While there is, indeed, a sequel coming for a game that was released in 2011 called El Shaddai, it might be more accurate to say that the game that's getting a sequel is the Android-only 2D side-scroller. In fact, even calling it a sequel is stretching things a little; as Andriasang helpfully explains, the teaser site that was spotted a few weeks ago is for a social game being released on GREE, a Japanese social gaming network. Players will have the opportunity to team up in threes to engage in quests and battles.

So, basically, it's bad news for anyone who hoped that they'd have another opportunity to fight as an Apocryphal figure from ancient Jewish mysticism alongside a pre-Fall version of Lucifer. Isn't that always the way?
